It is important to consider what worms your pet may be at risk of infection from. Some types of worming treatment will only treat against some and not others. for example, tapeworms versus roundworms. In practice we frequently use a tablet version called Milpro. This is because it effectively treats all worms. We do not recommend pet shop brand wormers as many are not as effective. 

Dogs

We recommend worming puppies every month until at least six months old. From then it will vary slightly, depending on the product used and how at risk your dog is, but we would recommend at least every three months.

One of the latest veterinary products to our practice is Nexgard Spectra. This is a monthly treatment in a tasty tablet form that effectively treats fleas, ticks and roundworms!

Cats

We recommend worming kittens every month until they are six months old. 

Cats who regularly hunt or venture out far and wide are recommended a monthly treatment. This is because the probability of a worm infection is higher. Low risk house cats may be effectively treated with a wormer every three-six months. 

A new product monthly treatment to our practice is Nexgard Combo. Nexgard Combo is an all rounder treating both round and tapeworms but even better it also treats fleas and ticks!
